Physical Description

Amblyseius andersoni adults measure approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) in length, with a pear-shaped body and are beige to light brown in colour.

The eggs are oval, 0.14 mm (0.01 inches) in length, and are translucent white in colour.
The larvae and nymphs are a transparent white colour.

Life Cycle

Amblyseius andersoni completes its life cycle within 8–12 days at temperatures between 20-28°C (68–82°F).

Eggs hatch in approximately 2–3 days.
The larval stage lasts about 1 day.
The protonymph and deutonymph stages, lasting 4–8 days in total.
Adults can live for up to 3 weeks. Adult females can lay up to 30–35 eggs throughout their lifespan.

Mode of Action

Amblyseius andersoni larvae, nymphs, and adults pierce their prey with their sucking mouthparts and extract the internal contents. Their ability to survive on pollen and alternative food sources makes them effective for long-term preventative control of mite populations. While Amblyseius andersoni primarily preys on spider mites, it also feeds on broad mites, thrips larvae, and pollen, allowing it to persist even in the absence of primary prey.

Ideal Greenhouse Conditions

Amblyseius andersoni is most effective at temperatures between 20-28°C (68-82°F) and relative humidity above 65%.

Application

Loose:

Gently turn and rotate containers before application. Gently rotate the container after every few posts or rows to evenly distribute the Amblyseius andersoni predatory mites inside.
Sprinkle contents on foliage out of direct sunlight.
Ensure the contents remain on the introduction site for at least a few hours after application.
