Physical Description

Amblyseius californicus adults are 0.4 mm (0.02 inches) long, pear-shaped and tan in colour. Males are much smaller and darker brown than females, though females generally more numerous.

The eggs are oval, transparent to white in colour and are deposited on the underside of the leaves.
The larvae and nymphs are a transparent white colour.

Life Cycle

Amblyseius californicus completes its life cycle within 7–9 days at 25°C (77°F).

Eggs hatch in approximately 2–3 days.
larval stage lasts about 1 day.
Nymphal stages comprises of the protonymph and deutonymph stages, lasting 6-8 days.
Adults can live for up to 20 days, and adult females can lay up to 43 eggs throughout their lifespan.

Mode of Action

Amblyseius californicus larvae, nymphs and adults pierce their prey with their sucking mouthparts and suck out the contents. Their slow feeding habits make them effective against low spider mite populations and when used preventatively. Though Amblyseius californicus prefers preying on spider mites, they can also consume the eggs of Phytoseiulus persimilis.

Ideal Greenhouse Conditions

Amblyseius californicus is most effective at temperatures between 13-32°C (55-90°F) and relative humidity above 50%.

Application

Loose:

Gently turn and rotate bottles before application. Gently rotate the container after every few posts or rows to evenly distribute the Amblyseius californicus predatory mites inside.
Sprinkle contents on foliage out of direct sunlight.
Ensure the contents remain on the introduction site for at least a few hours after application.
