Physical Description

Eretmocerus eremicus adults are 0.8–1 mm (0.03–0.04 inches) long, yellow in color, with short antennae and broad wings.

Eggs are 0.2 mm (0.008 inches) in size, oval-shaped, and translucent white when first laid.
Larvae are 0.2–1 mm (0.01–0.04 inches) in length, pale yellow, and develop externally under whitefly nymphs before entering and consuming the host from within.

Life Cycle

Eretmocerus eremicus completes its life cycle within 16–20 days at 25°C (77°F).

Eggs hatch in approximately 2–3 days, after being laid underneath whitefly nymphs.
The larval stage lasts about 5–7 days, during which the larvae penetrate and feed on the whitefly nymph internally.
Pupation occurs within the parasitized whitefly nymph, lasting 7–10 days, during which the nymph gradually turns yellow before darkening.
Adults can live for up to 12–20 days, and adult females can lay up to 150–200 eggs throughout their lifespan.

Mode of Action

Eretmocerus eremicus controls whitefly populations by parasitizing their nymphs and directly feeding on them. Female wasps deposit their eggs beneath whitefly nymphs, and once the larvae hatch, they burrow into the host and consume it from the inside, ultimately leading to its death. In addition to parasitism, adult Eretmocerus eremicus help suppress whiteflies by piercing nymphs and feeding on their internal fluids.

Eretmocerus eremicus is most effective at temperatures between 25-30°C (77-86°F) and 60-80% relative humidity.
